Ryan Bisio
Pop-Blues-Americana? Acoustic-Funk-Waltz? These are the noble attempts at classifying the original music created by the California based singer songwriter Ryan Bisio. Typically garnering praise for his charismatic, humorous stage presence and magnetic personality, it is Bisio’s ability to fuse genres into original songs which enables music fans the unique entertainment experience.
Bisio’s live solo performance defies what even the most veteran music lovers have come to expect. Bisio has opened for Grammy Award Winning artist Shelby Lynne, and Rolling Stone’s Top 100 guitarist Greg Ginn, who dubbed Bisio, “An exciting young guitar player.” Ryan’s style is very unique, which includes the technique used in his guitar playing. Bisio doesn’t hold back for a second on his new 13-song “Rose Side of the Thorn”, a collection of delicious and interesting musical choices. The multi-instrumentalist plays guitars, piano, bass, harmonica, ukulele, accordion, and delivers a timeless vocal on the record. The first track, “Matchstick Mr.” sets the musical pace carried trough – with slick horns and clanging symbols – up to and beyond the clever emo ballad called “Anyways”, a lovely song complete with typewriter sounds and loving lyrics to a girl named “Sandra”. This is a three-hanky gem full of wispy notes confronting the age-old boy/girl attachment of should I stay or should I go.
This collection encompasses all of Bisio’s influences- ranging from Tom Waits, Ryan Adams, Dave Matthews, Bob Dylan, and Michael Jackson. In speaking about the album, Bisio says, “This record has illuminated the path toward becoming the type of songwriter I want to be.”
